The process of image manipulation
Photoshop can be used to manipulate an image in a variety of ways. Figure 3.8 shows how to work in a grayscale photograph. In Figure 3.8A, the image of a pine tree appears on screen. It looks like a pleasant still image.

In Figure 3.8B, I’ve turned on the Watercolor Filter and smeared the texture.
In Figure 3.8C, I’ve applied the Watercolor Filter settings to the entire image and changed the mode to Multiply. Now the entire image is darkened.
In Figure 3.8D, I’ve adjusted the Levels tool to lighten the image. I’m going to use Levels again.
The Levels tool makes it easy to lighten and darken an image. You can change the levels between light and dark either by adjusting the amount of black and white in the image or by increasing the contrast.

You can control the effect of the Levels tool even more by changing the mode in which it operates. One of the modes is to overlay one image over another. By blending between the two images, you can find a balance between light and dark.

Extract the downloaded package in a location of your choice. Open GIMP and select Photoshop from the menu. Open Photoshop Elements and open the folder where you extracted Adobe Photoshop Elements or Adobe Photoshop. Go to Help -> Configure the software.

Select a photo or graphic and go to Enhance > Curves. Move the slider in the left portion of the Curves dialog box until the image looks the way you want it.
Select a photo or graphic and go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Drag a slider in the dialog box and select a desired amount of blur.
Photoshop offers several printing options. For example, go to Image > Print and you can print your image on paper, canvas, or a custom tray. Or, go to View > Print Size to change the size of your print.
The Slideshow feature lets you change the sequence of your pictures by clicking the thumbnails in the View menu.
To insert a picture in a word document or other type of document, go to Insert > Picture. You can select the location on your computer where you want to save the image.
