The first and most powerful is the Brush tools; because you use brushes the most, this is where you will spend most of your time. The second is the Pen tools, which is useful mainly to make precise selections and easy to control lines; this category is also known as the Selection tool. The last tools are the filters that allow you to transform or alter an image and the tools that allow you to create special effects and masks.
The tools palette has different tool tabs that allow you to switch quickly between the tools. When working with the Brush tools, you can use tool mode, which is shown in Figure 7.2. Tool mode changes the way the brush behaves; for example, a brush with no angle can be set to be a saw-tooth pattern, which has a different effect than a brush with a 45-degree angle.
Each tool has its own toolbar and you can switch to another one by clicking on it.
When you want to create a new, edit an existing one or resize it, simply use the toolbox button on the toolbar.
