“New York Times Headlines” is an interactive feed which displays eight headlines from the New York Times.
It looks similar to the article synopsis feeds that are displayed on the sidebar of the New York Times web site. This feed is updated every 10 minutes.
I am presently experimenting with the feeds by adding it to a few different sites. The first one on which I added it was the New York Times “Guide” site. It just shows the headlines in an unordered list with a title to each one.

Hello 2 months ago

Do you know how to add a date, time, weather, news, stock quote, links etc… on your site? I’ve been trying to solve this problem for a long time, and now I’ve found a plugin that I thought could work for me, but doesn’t. Would you please make a free version that doesn’t require a credit card to register on? I’m a little close to paying through my nose, so I appreciate anything that helps me save a few bucks (even if its for something that should be free). Here is a link to a similar plugin (which is exactly what you want)

Thanks for your time,
Gary

What’s New In?

This is a simple, java webstart application which displays eight headlines from the New York Times.
The goal is to show a news site in a pleasant, user-friendly way without burning too many resources.
Javascript is used to scroll the news feed and cause the pan and zoom, but it’s very simple and I’m not interested in much of it.
I only want to display eight headlines; they are broken down into four categories.
These categories are supposed to be orange, yellow, green, and black. In the demo I’m using green, yellow, and black; and in the default configuration, you need to edit a template file to change these colors.
After the story appears, you’re supposed to be able to click on any story in order to display it in a new window.
Note that each story is a DIV which is contained within a table. This table has its own DIV containing the title of the story. When you click on the title, the story title pops up in a new window. (There’s a link in the title to the story page.)
The problem is that when you click on the story title it seems to jump around. It’s a little hard to explain, so I’ll show an example.
Click on the three stories near the bottom right (within the grey area). Notice how all three story titles seem to jump around.
When you click on the titles they don’t jump; they fade in. But they also fade out and disappear. I think I need to fix this behavior.
I’ve added a popup window which shows when you click on a story’s title. It shows the story with some basic info and the ability to see the story itself.
The problem is that it’s really hard to see which page the story is on when you click on it.
I can get the story title from the DOM and I can use javascript to remove the first “” and the number after it and display this text in a popup window. But then I don’t know where in the story the popup appears.
So, I need a way to add a little container around the story for users to click on that will display the story’s title.
Here are some things I want to accomplish:
1. Click on the story title in the popup (in the grey box).
2. The story title should fade in and fade out.
3. The story title should not disappear after the fade out.
4.
