Nigeria’s Eko Atlantic ready to venture into US markets
Eko Atlantic, Nigeria’s fastest growing economy-state asset manager, is fully geared to invest in the United States.
According to Chief Executive Officer, Capt. Godfrey Onih, it is something which he “cannot put on hold” in the coming years as it is where many of the world’s fastest growing economies lie.
“This is the major reason we have been on board and made the necessary preparations to get this country on the right track,” Onih, who was speaking at the 2016 Global Asset Allocation Conference & Awards in New York, United States, said.
It is one of the largest economies in Africa and the 20th largest economy in the world, with a projected growth rate of over seven per cent.
He said that there are some very interesting and attractive opportunities in the US, such as medical innovation, oil and gas production, real estate and some other products and services which the company is looking to tap into.
He noted that Eko Atlantic is looking at a 30 per cent growth rate by 2021.
Onih said that the company is in the process of hiring more staff and is looking to ramp up its operations across the US market.
“We have been in the US market for the last seven years and we have been investing in the US market for the last six years.
“So it is not surprising that we are taking a major leap of faith and preparing to venture into the US market as you can see it is all the buzz right now,” he said.
Onih said that the company plans to focus on asset allocation and portfolio management as this is the company’s core area of business.
“We see the markets of the US and the UK as the two key markets that we will be looking at for the next five to six years,” he said.
He also said that the company is looking to expand its operations in some of the African markets and have already reached some of them.
He said the company will not enter the London market as it is already being served by other asset managers who are doing a very good job.
