“The line between a career and a life-time career can be very blurred for health care professionals,” he explained. “We have a high cost of living in the Chicagoland area. When we talk to our recruits, they may get a job offer from somewhere else that they may want to take. Inevitably, they will want to work somewhere where they are happy and have a good career path.”
Bush said he has seen high school graduates and college graduates who are excited about being a doctor but who are not sure where they will ultimately want to work. So, instead of feeling compelled to work in a community they do not want to live in, they leave the area.
