This simple utility is able to detect applications that are listening on network ports. It allows you to look at which ports are currently open and identify the local and remote IP addresses used.
Ports may be in the process of establishing, communicating, have closed or are filtered. If your computer is infected with malware, you can find out the addresses of the programs that are listening for incoming connections.
By clicking on the filter, you can select the type of connection that you want to check.
You can also select the priority of the content that you want to watch.

Port Scanner
Port Scanner is the feature that allows you to scan and monitor the connections of your machine, as well as all of its subnet addresses.
If a particular port on the network is not being used, it will show the ‘dotted-quad’ pattern, such as ‘192.168.10.1:65530 -> 192.168.10.1:65600 (Active)’.
If a particular port is in use, the pattern will only show the port number: ‘192.168.10.1:65530 -> [143.0886:63803] (Active)’.

How to use?

Select the ‘Port Scanner’ option.

Scan the specified port.

Close the port window when done.

Worked examples:
After scanning the local IP address 192.168.10.1 and detecting port 65530 in use, the ‘Port Scanner’ option is selected in the main window, which confirms that this is the currently opened port.
Notice that there’s no ‘dotted-quad’ pattern shown in this scenario, as the port 65530 is currently being used by another application (in this case the VMWare virtual machine, if you’re wondering).
