Use Caps-notification to bind the Caps Lock LED to a different keyboard command.
This is a Pidgin plugin, implemented in perl, that flashes the Caps Lock LED when you receive a Chat message.
It was made to overcome the limitation of the current cap-lock behaviour on Pidgin 2.4, cap-lock!= caps-lock (due to modifications in the keyboard.c module) which sometimes leads to annoying Caps Lock sequences.

The windows version is 32bit, the Mac version is 64bit.
INSTALL
1. put caps-notification.dll (from caps-notification.zip) into:
/usr/lib/pidgin/plugins/
2. change caps-lock= on pidgin’s configuration file or put caps-notification.xml into:
/etc/pidgin/
There is an icon for the plugin on the desktop.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If caps-notification does not work at startup for you, try to use caps-lock=caps-lock or caps-lock=yes.
You can also add caps-notification.xml in /usr/share/pidgin/plugins.xml

Simply put, it has been designed to:
allow you to customize the notification behavior, by choosing which leds to flash at which frequency and when triggered by which event.
allow you to set a keyboard specific keyboard shortcut (so you can interact with the notification and/or the switcher at a quick glance)
allow you to configure the notification LED color (if you prefer it to be black or white)
allow you to “auto-disable” the notification if you set it in a certain state.
Caps-notification Features:
– Configurability: The application allows you to specify which keyboards leds to flash at which frequency and when triggered by which event.
– Keyboard shortcuts: You can define keyboard shortcuts that trigger the notification (for instance a combination of CapsLock and Tab). If you do, it will not be active in normal situations.
– Configuration: You can specify caps-notification settings in many languages in the application configuration file.
Caps-notification requires the following software:
– The Led Indicator Plugin for Pidgin / Finch (Or Finch)
– A configuration file (see configuration guide below)
– Pidgin or Finch
Note: You can change the application icon in the /usr/share/pixmaps directory.

Some information that you will probably need to know:
The Caps-notification application is probably not designed for systems with 640k-bytes of RAM.
(Otherwise, it might crash, because it tries to allocate a lot of memory for the additional Flash_LEDs)

What’s New In Caps-notification?
Caps-notification is a plugin for Pidgin / Finch that will flash your keyboard LEDs when you receive a Chat / IM message.
You can choose the keyboard leds to flash, the flash rate or the flash trigger by accessing the application’s configuration.
THE WORKING SECRET: The setting for Caps-Notification is hidden in the message window’s tooltip. You can either select the desired settings from the available menu or click the Expand to reveal the settings.

Caps-Notification is a plugin that will flash your keyboard LEDs when you receive a Chat message.
This settings can be controlled via the message window’s tooltips, by accessing the available options menu.

General Settings
Caps-notification options can be accessed by clicking the orange plus sign in the upper right corner of the message window.
The settings can be accessed by pressing the tab key as shown:

Tip: Caps-Notification will be triggered if the text is shown for 2 seconds, so dont just type an *********** like **** without delay.
