The excavated Amuwo Odofin Stone Circle (ASCB ID 95.1) is located about 1 kilometer southwest of Kwadasakwan, an area that has been cleared of buildings and rural farms. Dating to the early first millennium CE, the approximately 80.5-meter diameter circular area has thirty-seven and seven stone pillars, with an unusual combination of three orthogonal and two oblique arrangements. The inscriptions are consistent with the Yoruba royal tradition of king-making and the traditional religious system of Orisa Adimbi. The ASA has three main phases (Figure 1). Around the middle of the third millennium CE, a large circular wall was constructed that encloses a larger area of less than half the original diameter. This implies that the original circle had expanded or been reduced, a possibility that must be considered in any discussions of the dating of this site.
These days, the Stone Circle is under the protection of the Badagry Landscape and Wildlife Conservation Association, and the site has been cleaned, replanted, and fenced. The walls were surveyed and recorded in 2016. It is hoped that it will continue to be maintained in this way.
